GiveMeSub Privacy Policy
Effective 16 October 2026.
GiveMeSub shows live captions for audio playing on your Mac. It is built to work entirely on your device.
What the app accesses
- System audio. With your permission (macOS “System Audio Recording”), GiveMeSub listens to the audio your Mac plays, only while captions are on. The menu bar icon is solid while it is listening.
- Settings. Your choices (language, caption appearance, caption mode, launch at login) are saved in the app’s preferences on your Mac.
What happens to it
- Audio is transcribed on your Mac by a speech model bundled with the app.
- Audio and captions are kept in memory only while shown, and are never saved to disk.
- Nothing is sent over the network. GiveMeSub has no servers, accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking, and shares no data with third parties.
- Report a Problem… opens a GitHub issue draft in your browser with the app version, macOS version, Mac model, your caption settings and the app’s recent log lines. Nothing is sent unless you submit it, and submitted issues are public, so edit out anything you’d rather not share.
Your control
Turn captions off at any time from the menu bar, with ⌃⌥⌘C, or in Shortcuts. You can revoke audio access in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording. Deleting the app removes its preferences.
Children
GiveMeSub collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
Updates to this policy are published in this file; the effective date above changes with them.
